A conference will be held in Rome on Oct. 4 on the subject of orgonomy, which is a rather broad-spectrum field that touches on many widely divergent subjects. Most of the presentations will be of little interest except to specialists, but there is one that has a degree of public importance.

One of the invited speakers will be a Dr. James DeMeo, of Ashland, Oregon, USA. Dr. DeMeo is an extremely outspoken enemy of Islam and at every venue at which he speaks loses no opportunity to denounce and denigrate Islam and it's followers, all of whom he considers terrorists, without exception. 

Public condemnation of a religion and attempting to incite hostility against people on grounds of their religion is illegal in Italy, as in most European countries, but in past lectures in Germany and other countries, Dr. DeMeo has ignored these laws and spoken against Muslims in terms that bear little or no respect for historical facts and more closely resemble Nazi propaganda than the dispassionate scholarship he pretends to. Despite laws against defamation of a religion and incitement to inter-religious hatred, so far no attempt has been made to stop him. 

Most of the conference will be about other topics and most of the speakers will not agree with Dr. DeMeo on this subject, but it is a disgrace that he is to be allowed to present his anti-Islamic bigotry under the guise of social science. I suggest you might want to have somebody attend this event to monitor his presentation and take appropriate action. 

Blasband, Constable, And The ACO

Dr. Richard Blasband, whom Reich asked Ellsworth Baker to push out of orgonomy, is still with us, having recently given a talk at a conference in Italy on alternative sciences.

 Dr, Blasband, whose underhanded manipulations to discredit Ralph Markson, now on the Atmospheric Physics faculty at MIT,  and take over the research program of the ACO set back the scientific acceptance of orgonomy by at least a generation, was a good friend of the late Charles Pitchel, formerly the personal representative in America of Adolph Hitler, and more recently, along with another ex-president of the ACO, Barbara Koopman, an outspoken fan and defender of the late Nicolai Levashov, whose anti-Semitic rantings, which can be found on his website, are so extreme even the Nazis would be embarrassed by them. 

In 1972, when I blew the whistle on his friend, Trevor Constable, exposing the killing of numerous people in California by cloudbuster-generated storms, Constable was promptly fired by Ellsworth Baker, but the mass murder by Constable with funding and support from the ACO was no news to Blasband. He had been visiting there in Los Angeles when Constable demonstrated a new cloudbusting technique, documented by the next day's newspater headlines: "Unpredicted storm hikes state death toll to 67 on rain-slicked freeways". Another report by Constable which was already in Blasband's files was documented by the headline: "9-year old boy swept out to sea by sudden, unpredicted storm" .

 Baker told me at the time, "I'm worried about Dr. Blasband", and assured me the whole story would be exposed in the next issue of the Journal of Orgonomy. I am still waiting for that article. 

Correspondence between Blasband and Constable at the time shows that Blasband suggested he quit the ACO to go into a commercial cloudbusting venture with Constable, but Constable talked him out of it, saying he would need someone on the inside in the ACO in the future to keep him informed of any developments. 

Reich And The Communists

I have read the correspondence between Reich and Trotsky. And I agree that Reich almost certainly was concerned after Trotsky's murder that he might be  next on the KGB's hit list. That was almost certainly the origin of his fears that he was a target of KGB activities. 

But there is no evidence that he really WAS a target of the KGB. His identification with Trotsky may have led him to think so, but the allegations are not strongly supported by any credible evidence. And, yes, I have read the material by Dr. DeMeo, but that must be read with due regard for DeMeo's strong connection to the American Far Right. He and most of his close associates cannot be considered an unbiased source where anything to do with Communism is concerned. 

Ms. Brady was a comsumer advocate, and it was most likely in that capacity, not as a vengence-seekling, order-following member of the Communist Party, that she acted in denouncing the orgone accumulator, a device that certainly SOUNDS implausable to anyone with the standard training in medical science. Doctors and scientists steeped in the current mechanistic biochemical theories will automatically regard the orgone theory as quackery without needing any political motivation. 

Brady may or may not have still been ideologically a Marxist at the time she wrote the articles on Reich in the late 40s, but her affiliuation with Consumer Reports, an excellent magazine that served a much-needed purpose and, like any publication that helps the public protect themselves from commercial exploitation, was frequently called "Communist" by the business interests it criticized, is the most likely connection that explains her antipathy to Reich, not Soviet instructions as Reich thought, and as DeMeo and other right-wingers like to claim. 

Reich's fears of Soviet asassination attempts were unrealistic, though not irrational. He simply failed to recognize that he was not as important to Stalin as was Trotsky and nobody in Russia cared enough to bother to kill him. But his paranoid-sounding writings that the KGB was spying on him and wanted to kill him set the stage for the paranoid conspiracy-theorists of today, who fantasize about Reich having been "silenced" by some secret cabal, while in fact, he fell victim to the much more dangerous and insideous normal workings of the ordinary bureaucracy, the courts, and law enforcement which still threaten us all today.

UFOs And Orgonomy

 I have nothing to add to all that has been published over the last 65 years on UFOs. For all I know there might be several extraterrestrials on this list, reading everything I write. If so, I hope they will speak up and tell us all about their planet. But I have frequently stated, and will repeat, that the lights Reich and his crew saw in the night sky were probably an orgone lumination effect, not UFOs. And if that interpetation is correct, there is no connection between orgonomy and UFOs, regardless of if UFOs exist or whatever they may be. 

The late Jerome Eden was really great as a cloudbuster operator. He had a good feel for orgone energy and understood it well. He wrote a fantastic book on cloudbusting. It is the best book ever written in the field. He taught a course on cloudbusting that was very good. And his awareness of DOR and Oranur effects on the atmosphere and on health was profound. In those fields, I agree with what he wrote 100%. 

But he was also very far to the right when it came to politics. He bought into the whole McCarthy Era notion of communists under every bed and spies infiltrating government agencies. And he bought the claim by Reich that it was Soviet influence that brought about Reich's downfall. And it was impossible to work with him or remain on good terms with him if one did not agree. 

And he was also so far caught up in the UFO business that it was the main focus of more of his writings than orgonomy was. That was unfortunate. Orgonomy could have used more writings by him on the science he knew and understood so well. Instead, what we got was a long list of writings on UFOs, none of which says anything usefull to us today. 

Facts And Legends

The facts of orgonomy are at LEAST as well established as the facts that are accepted in every other field of science. In fact, most of them rest on far more evidence, and better quality evidence, than the usually accepted ideas in science do today. The lack of official recognition of those facts is not because of any lack of evidence. It is because of the external "packaging" that came with them, the unconforming personality of Reich, the political, social, and science-fictional baggage that is almost always included in the package, prevents the scientific findings from being accepted. 

As long as it is impossible to bring up bions or cloudbusting in a conversation with a scientist without getting bogged down in pointless digressions about UFOs, Communist plots, military secrets, sex, right-wing political ideologies, psychotherapy, and the personality of a man who has now been dead for two generations, there will never be any serious discussion of orgonomic scientific findings. The life and personality of Reich is too powerful and still overshadows everything he touched. 

That is why I have been devoting so much time to debunking the legendary aspects of orgonomy so the scientific aspects can be seen clearly, without all that irrelevant baggage. It is way past time for orgonomy to forget about Reich and move on. It is the fixation on Reich that prevents orgonomy from going on without him. 

Entertainment As Miseducation

A central issue in all forms of environmental protection activism is the intentional miseducation of the public about environmental issues via the entertainment media. There have been a lot of "thriller" novels and movies that show some form of wild animal or some natural weather occurance as the threat. These movies and books do a grave diservice to the public by giving the impression that sharks, alligators, tigers, gorillas, hurricanes, tornadoes, and other parts of the natural world are dangerous and the prevention of that danger is the "heroic" thing to do. Such books and movies make the job of environmentalists harder when they try to get protection for endangered species of shark, for example. There have also been a lot of such thrillers in which some fanatical group of environmentalists try to do something like blow up a nuclear power plant to "save the environment". They are always thwarted at the last moment by the heroic FBI agent who saves the innocent victims and preserves the status quo. These absurd "entertainment" novels and movies are not just an accident. They are a part of a longstanding propaganda campaign by the ecconomic forces that benefit from the status quo and exploitation of "resources" at the cost of destruction of the environment.  Hollywood and the major publishing companies are a part of the problem. This sort of misleading "entertainment" should be exposed and fought at every oportunity because it makes it that much harder to win suport for needed environmental protections. Including the protection of hurricanes and tornadoes.  Fortunately, there is an Endangered Species Act to protect wildlife. Someday, if cloudbuster proliferatrion continues, we may need an Endangered Weather Systems Act to protect hurricanes and tornadoes from destructive members of the public who get their science "education" from thriller novels and Hollywood movies.
